20th World Petroleum Congress unveils its promotional booth at OTC 2010
DOHA, QATAR, 03 May 2010 - The 20th World Petroleum Congress (WPC), to be hosted by Qatar Petroleum in December 2011, unveiled its promotional booth at the OTC 2010 exhibition in Houston (03-06 May). The booth will be used at numerous events worldwide in 2010 and 2011 and attended by the Qatar Organising Committee for the 20th WPC.
Frederic Malgoire, Sales and Marketing Director for the 20th WPC, said: “This booth is an essential tool in the extensive promotion of the 20th WPC worldwide. It has been designed specifically to attract the attention of visitors at the events that we will attend globally to promote 20th WPC and Qatar as its host country.”
Over 70,000 participants are expected at OTC 2010 The Offshore Technology Conference, the largest annual oil and gas event worldwide. The Qatar Organising Committee for the 20th WPC expects to generate substantial interest from the attendees of OTC 2010.
Pierce Riemer, Director General of the World Petroleum Council, declared on attending OTC 2010: “The 20th WPC booth looks really good. It is a great publicity for the 20th WPC but also for Qatar as its host country. It demonstrates the commitment of the Qatar Organising Committee to making the 20th WPC a memorable congress.”
The Call for Papers for the 20th WPC has been running since April 1st, 2010, inviting oil and gas specialists around the world to share their knowledge and expertise with delegates at the industry’s largest and most prestigious event. Representatives from the World Petroleum Council Secretariat will be present on the 20th WPC booth throughout OTC 2010 to help with the flow of expected enquiries on the Call for Papers and the 20th WPC programme in general.
The Congress Programme Committee has prepared a wide-ranging Technical Programme to recognize the scientific, technological and professional achievements of the oil and gas sector. Topics for the sessions reflect the official theme for the 20th WPC: ‘Energy Solutions for All: Promoting Cooperation, Innovation and Investment’.
Submissions are invited for a broad range of topics in the 24 Forums of the Congress. They are split across five key blocks focusing on the latest developments and achievements in the areas of:
- Natural Gas: The Energy that makes a Difference
- New Exploration and Production Frontiers and Technologies
- From the Well to the Consumer: Innovations In Refining, Transportation, Fuel Technology and Petrochemistry
- Complementary Energy Sources
- Sustainability Commitment: Environment, Social, Economy, Education, Governance

The 5-day congress, the largest of its kind in the world, with over 4000 delegates, 600 media and over 550 presenters, is being hosted by Qatar Petroleum. Since its establishment in 1933, this is the first time that the World Petroleum Congress will be hosted in the Middle East.
More than 20 major sponsors have confirmed their interest, while almost 80% of available exhibition space has already been taken just a few weeks into the event’s promotional campaign.
The exhibition accompanying the 20th WPC is expected to cover 35,000 square metres, surpassing the previous WPC event in Madrid in 2008 by 20%, and making it the largest WPC exhibition in history.

The 20th WPC will be held at the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC). Opening in 2011, QNCC will boast an iconic design and cutting edge facilities in a green technology venue. It is the first facility of its kind being built to the gold certification of the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED).
