QP conducts occupational health training for over 300 participants
22 June 2011, Doha -- In line with the corporation's commitment to high standards in occupational health and safety in its operations, Qatar Petroleum Medical Services has recently concluded its intensive training program on occupational health, achieving a milestone of more than 300 participants trained over a 15-month period.
The Occupational Health Foundation Program was first launched in April 2010 and a total of 302 participants have successfully completed the training program since then. The participants consisted primarily of QP’s healthcare staff, key personnel from QP’s Health, Safety & Environment directorates and departments, as well as Qatari nursing students from the College of the North Atlantic – Qatar (CNA-Q).
The main objective of the training program was to provide attendees with foundation knowledge on the basic functions of occupational health services in the oil & gas industry in order to enhance the level of support in occupational health service delivery to QP.
The two-day training program was unique in its content and it received accreditation from the Medical Education Department of Hamad Medical Corporation. The program was fully developed in-house by a team of occupational health professionals under the Medical Services Department, with the support of QP’s Corporate Training Department.
To mark the achievement of the program’s target number of participants over the past 15 months, Dr. Mahmood Abdulrahman Al-Jaidah, Manager of Medical Services at QP, presided over the program’s closing event, which was held on June 12 at the Millennium Hotel.
The guest of honour was Mr. Ahmad Ali Abdulla Al-Mawlawi, Director of Administration, who presented a “Certificate of Appreciation” to each member of the entire training team. Also present during the event were Mr. Nasser Mohamed Ali Mubarak, Manager for Corporate HSE Support, and Mr. Abdulla Saoud Al-Kuwari, Manager for HSE Technical & Supervision, who distributed a “Certificate of Attendance” to each of the final batch of participants.
In his felicitation speech, Dr. Al-Jaidah highlighted the importance of occupational health services in the petrochemical industry and he also emphasized the key role played by healthcare professionals in supporting QP’s occupational health services. In addition, he applauded the professionalism and high-quality delivery of the training program and commended the training and development team for their commitment in achieving the program’s objectives and ensuring its successful outcome.
Dr. Al-Jaidah also expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the Director of Administration and to the Corporate Training Department for their continued support and to the Medical Education Department of Hamad Medical Corporation for accrediting the training program.
