Employee Counseling and Grievance Handling
This course helps individuals to react effectively to staff problems and disciplinary issues in the workplace. It aims to improve the individual’s interpersonal skills with his subordinates and how to develop strategies to overcome any problems.

Who Should Attend?
Supervisors and coaches who need to recognize when staff performance is affected by the presence or work/personal problems and who are required to offer counseling and guidance towards a solution. Also for those who have to deal with issues of discipline and grievance.

Ground Rules: creating openness; creating trust; establishing rapport; giving feedback; confidentiality.
Interpersonal skills: flexibility; responsiveness; understanding the needs of the individual.
Listening: active and passive listening; adapting your style to the situation.
Assertiveness and questioning techniques: challenging views; selected questions; questions to avoid.
Joint problem solving: how to increase the readiness of others to accept proposals; problem analysis; selection of the best course of action.
Seek and Sell solutions: accepting ideas & building on them; recognizing difficulties; engagement; exploration; comprehension; commitment.
Disciplinary Issues: management responsibilities; rules and procedures; stages in the process; constructive and unfair dismissal; obstacles.
Interviewing: approach; preparation; structure; focusing on relevant information; uncovering evidence; creating the right atmosphere; flow of information.
Assessment: evidence; information reported and observed; validity; removing personal bias; involvement between management and HR
Grievance procedure: the rights of the employee; the company policy guidelines; legal implications; industrial Tribunals – procedures and format.
